My research focuses on theoretical and applied questions in marine ecology and fisheries science. I combine ecological theory, statistical modelling, and reproducible scientific computing to understand how marine populations and fisheries respond to environmental variability, fishing pressure, and ecosystem change.

Research themes

Fisheries population dynamics and stock assessment

Population dynamics, stock indicators, growth, recruitment, selectivity, demographic structure, uncertainty, and adaptive approaches to fisheries assessment and management.

Spatio-temporal marine ecology

Spatial structure, habitat, distribution shifts, fishing-fleet behaviour, accessibility, hotspots, and spatio-temporal models for marine populations and fisheries.

Environmental variability and ecosystem responses

Responses of marine populations to oceanographic and climatic variability, including changes in productivity, oxygen, upwelling, habitat conditions, and ecosystem regimes.

Statistical ecology and scientific computing

Hierarchical, additive, mixed, Bayesian, multivariate, and machine-learning methods supported by reproducible workflows in R, Python, Julia, Git, and GitHub.

From questions to research programmes

These themes are implemented through active projects on the multidimensional state of the north-central Peruvian anchovy stock, anchovy selectivity and demographic change, the Peruvian tuna purse-seine fishery, fleet responses to temporary closures, multivariate assessment indicators, and reproducible marine data systems.
