Suitability of the gonadosomatic index in Peruvian Anchoveta

Sexual maturity, a 5% critical threshold, and seasonal variation

VI SIBECORP conference presentation on gonadosomatic-index diagnostics and maturity classification in Peruvian anchoveta.

Conference presentation · 11 November 2024 · Lisbon, Portugal

VI Simpósio Ibero-Americano de Ecologia Reprodutiva, Recrutamento e Pesca (VI SIBECORP)

Overview

This presentation evaluated the gonadosomatic index (GSI) as an operational indicator of gonadal maturity in Peruvian anchoveta (Engraulis ringens). The work examined whether GSI and complementary predictors can classify maturity stages, whether a critical GSI threshold can identify active maturity phases, and how that threshold varies through the reproductive cycle.

The conference contribution formed part of the methodological development that was subsequently extended into peer-reviewed work on classification models for gonadal maturity.
